Power Pallet Run 10/11/2010

Hi all,

We now have the Power Pallet up and running. We're now using the Kubota engine direct driving a 4-pole generator at 1800 RPM. This combo is very nice and quiet.

We're running cedar chips, and will for a while: they are consistent size and we can find them chipped for use as a mulch locally, that way I don't have to run a chipper too. We've been sifting out the fines (~1/4") from the chips the last two days, which seems to be really helping to reduce packing of the reduction bell. The unsifted chips required much more shaking.

Installed an hour meter for the engine, currently @ 1.7 hours as of 3:10 PST. The hour meter wasn't on the engine for yesterdays run.

We now have a reasonable procedure set up for fuel mass input (kg) and fuel moisture. We'll be working on setting up a WattNode for accurate power monitoring and plumbing the new gas analyzer over the upcoming days.

Hi, I have been reading through the tests in this section, and the wiki.  I am attempting to estimate the heating value of the syn gas for any of the fuel types tested.

I attempted to extract the information in the data logged runs, since I didn't find a lot on the composition side, but the calculations required some pretty hefty assumptions on my part.  Is this information posted somewhere, or is this still TBD ?

harry, the number is at the end of the following thread on gas analysis numbers.

bear got to 6.6MJ/m3.  this is calculated from gas composition using a gas analysis machine.  this was not reconfirmed with a bomb calorimeter.  it is an extremely caveated number.

the rule of thumb is producer gas is 4-6 MJ/m3.
