A wood-fueled film projector, composed of a downdraft gasifier, Fairbank Z stationary engine, alternator, marine battery, inverter and 16m film projector


This machine creates electricity through the distillation of fire.  The intent is to run new media artwork, film screenings and live music in times of petroleum emergency as well as question necessary infrastructure and modes of consumption for new media artists.  The design I used was modified from a FEMA emergency fuel schematic. The parts were sourced from farm engines, old cars and scrap from a now defunct Heat Transfer Laboratory used to test materials for use in the atomic bomb.  




See below for video clips and performance stills.  During the installation, I made landscape drawings from the leftover charcoal onto the walls of the Fisher Landau Center, which is visible in the still images.
