Does anyone know how to make a homemade pellet mill?  I know you can buy them online and stuff, but they're usually at least like $1,200 or something and for me $1,200 can be a little hard to come by.  I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has built one themselves or knows of a link to some free PDF plans or something like that.  I'd like to try doing this as much from "scratch" as possible, using mostly just common junkyard type items.  Any helpful input is appreciated.

Regards,
Ben

Interesting, could be modified to run off a motor of some kind.  Wonder what the internal components are?  Also I'd want to some consistent method of separation, biggest problem I see with that thing is it produces a continuous pellet like a Play-Doh press, that'd probably be fairly easy to fix though.

I beleive the expeller is just a screw with a very course thread.
I think it would be farily easy to dry the plug whole and then brake it up by hand, or some form of hand press slicer (maybe 12" long with a blade every inch). The waste seems like it would be brittle, maybe similar to a large pellet (only less dense).

Yeah, I did some more looking into those type of oil presses and it looked like they relied on a small auger to expel the pellets.  If possible, I'm looking to see if I can come up with something that could crank out a decent amount of pellets fairly quickly, (80lbs-100lbs per hour or so).  My uncle and I have been kicking around the idea  of starting a business making and selling mixed biomass pellets, and we're looking for low cost machine to do some experimentation with on a small scale setup (our production facility for now would probably be a garage).  I saw another youtube video by an Italian guy who said he built the thing himself, but I could tell that the pellets were of poor quality.  Then he had a second video where he supposedly upgraded the press and the pellets looked great, the machine was producing them pretty quickly as well.  I have so far been unable to find the plans he mentioned in the video description but there's gotta be plans like this out there somewhere, right?  I have literally seen blueprints for a nuclear bomb posted in web forums before, but somehow I can't seem to find them for a pellet mill.  Crazy, right?  Thanks for your input though, it's given me some thoughts about other ways I could approach this  :)

Regards,
Ben
