Are you adding spark or keeping some diesel?
My neighbor has one of those and is thinking the same (adding wood gas to the diesel idle first).
I may try this with a 6.9L ford (intl.) diesel /non turbo.
I have spent the last couple of days considering the problem. The blogs say it can be done but I have not found anyone who has actually done it. I think for starters I will use diesel fuel to provide the spark and be happy with a 80-90% contribution from the wood gas. The 2-71 should run off the GEK 4" flue system....but no one has stepped forward with any real experience, The GEK sight is where I learned about the 2-71 and I love this engine and generator for lots of different reasons. I am currently drawing the version 4 GEK plans for the laser cutter ... no one has any complete plans either!

Well I guess someone has to be the first to " jump in the water".
I keep thinking of a way to use the injector lines as a "pressure switch trigger" that would discharge a spark at the right moment.
According to the blogs, the injectors work off a cam to develop fuel pressure. The engine schematic from the factory offers little insight. The generator supplier did not answer my e-mail but the injector is representin the manuel as a complicated piece . I have machine equipment to fabricate the adapters so I am not concerned with the conversion if there is room. Until I have the motor in the shop I will continue to study the 2-71 genset while I build a GEK kit from scratch.

With air this is fine: with premixed fuel you are pushing unburnt mixture into the exhaust system. Bad for fuel economy - and scary on safety grounds.

can you confirm which version of the gek you are trying to make? we may have more recent cad file versions in house you can build from if you are cnc cutting the pieces. we have yet to get these into a form to teach others the same with raw manual fabrication, but if you are cncing you can use more recent versions than i have up on the site.
we are soon starting a full build from scratch so we can get new pictures of the process from beginning to end. we're behind on these DIY materials given the push this last year over the power pallet dev and building. we'll catch up soon on the diy materials. the core gasifier of the power pallet remains the same gek you can build yourself from the plans.
