Hi guys,

I am planning on burn some Arundo donax on 10kw GEK Power pallet (we will just burn it and will not start the engine) and collect some syn-gas to compare the gas composition with burning wood chips.

My question is: since we need to feed some charcoals on bottom of reduction bell, when I run Arundo donax, what should I fill? Should I still fill with charcoal or fill with "Arundo donax-charcoal" (if there is such kind of charcoal on sale). If I still use wood charcoal, then the collected syn-gas will not be purely generated from Arundo donax, the syn-gas is still partially and indirectly from wood.

I need to test the syn-gas that purely comes from burning Arundo donax. Please reply if anyone has some suggestions or comments, or any useful information. Thank you very much!

The process requires charcoal to produce the correct gases.  I doubt the cane will provide what is necessary.  You will always need wood to form charcoal to support reduction.

You can pyrolize/biochar/terra preta it. It is essentially baking at a higher temp with no oxygen for a number of hours. It needs to be in a sealed container with a pipe for release of flammable gases. what you have left should be a char, and probably a powder which you may want to pellitize or briquet so it doesn't fall through the bottom. You -might- need to add water and bind, or you might have to mix with the fresh arundo to get it to bind and then you will have to let it dry.
