Has any one tried storing the gas produced in a seperate tank ( like Propane etc) for attachment and use to whatever applications whenever needed?

Hi Albalan0779,

This comes up a lot. There are a number of arguments against this, I'll keep this short however.

Volume - Producer gas has very low energy density. Below is a gas bladder for an anaerobic digestor with a volume said to be 24 cubic meters. Looking at Doug Williams Engine Tables page: http://www.fluidynen...nginetables.htm, 2.185 cubic metres of gas yields 0.754kW[hour] electrical, or 0.35 kWh electrical for every cubic meter, so this bladder could store 8.4 kWh of generating potential. The scale is somewhat hard to see, but this is a large structure (100' long?).

Energy - If you want to minimize the volume, you'd think of compressing it. The energy density becomes an issue again. The energy used by the compressor seriously starts to use the potential energy in the gas you're compressing.

Reversion - I don't have the specific numbers, but CO is not stable will revert to solid carbon and O2 over time. The rate will increase with compression.

Most importantly:
Safety - The produced gas has very high levels of CO. Storing, and especially compressing, the gas leads to risks of rapid release of the gas. THIS IS NOT SAFE.

So, in short, a gasifier should be used to produce as needed. If you need storage, its best to look at thermal or electrical storage options, and not storing the gas.

Thank you. That was the most clear and consise argument against storage i have ever heard. The FAQ should be linked to this thread.

Hi Bear@apl

you also have information on the distribution network (those cities, mixing the syngas with natural gas) of the syngas?
Is an idea that came in this time when in my area are "popping" biogas reactors.
feasible? Which plants are appropriate (compressors, purifiers, concentrators?)
Thanks for any information
alberto

Salve bear@apl
alberto
