Yep, i'm taking it out again, let me tell you what steam up is though first.

In Brooks, Oregon (where i live) there is a museum for old tractors, motors, black smithing... pretty much any of those old cool contraptions that you cant find anywhere else, including steam powered and trolleys.

they also have a huge swap meet with tones of cool old stuff.

So, now that you know what the event is, you can probably see why a gasifier would fit right in there, I think it's actually the only old power related device you cant find there. lots of people that work there know what i'm talking about though. (I love talking to the black smiths about gasifiers, they know EXACTLY what your talking about and then some sue to the similarities between a gasifier and a forge)

I've been working on it, and will have replaced my hopper with a nice new 16 gallon barrel (same size as it was) and will have a remade display board that's easier to understand for the public, and a book with some harder info for those who want to learn.

I also have acquired the parts to hook up a motor to it, but i dont have a filter... but i dont have a motor at the moment either so it's more of a display item at the moment to show how it works.
(ps: a 3/4 inch valve is large enough to run a motor right? i have the stuff hooked up to 1 inch tubing through the 3/4 valve that came with the ejector)

I will update with pictures when it's set up on friday, and as long as i get my air leaks pluged (mainly the bottom ash plug) i'll try and run it daily. if i get my blast gate for the plug soon enough i'll post a video of the test run on friday.

Hey thanks for posting the video!

Ours also start up fairly quickly the next day. The reason is because after shut down, the reactor, filter, and even the hopper will fill with wood gas. When you start up the next day, the left over wood gas will light immediately. Also the feed stock left over from the first run will be very dry and even still warm. Usually the best and shortest start up times are when its recently been run.

Since the gasifier is still full of wood gas on shut down, its always a good idea to consider purging the wood gas (after the reactor has cooled off and the reaction has stopped) before storing the gasifier.

Thanks, that's some useful information, i hadn't herd that before but with my current model it's not air tight enough to retain much gas unless it just got caught in between the fuel. plus I have a habit of removing the lid after it stops to see if it ran out of fuel (i guess that's close snough to purging right)
