Because fiberglass can be very harmful to lung tissues, there are some alternatives to fiberglass that look promising.
One should always wear a respirator when working with fiberglass, one of the health problems of fiberglass comes from damage to the lungs. The small particles of glass can become embedded into soft tissues of the lungs causing respiratory harm while the body has no way of purging these small glass particles, they can build up over time.
In one of Bears sourcing efforts he found Super Wool as a viable alternative to fiberglass.

The material design consideration that has been taken on is to maintain the thermal resistance and durability while decreasing the 'bio-persistence' of the product. If glass particles are inhaled or become embedded in the skin, they are not as much of an irritant as typical fiberglass. However one should still wear a respirator while installing Super Wool as well.
We have been pretty happy with it and we use this stuff every time our design calls for fiberglass-like material.
