Any of you know your motorcycles? Just got this link to a website from Switzerland, from someone who ordered a GEK. He's looking to put one on a vehicle, and said this was his inspiration:

My German is rusty, but I think the site is referring to the idea of producing energy from the Emmenthal region, hence the "oil of emmenthal."

That's one odd looking bike! Not a Harley but it does look like a big bore. I'm a dirt biker, not into street... but it looks like those bars are mounted upside down. Don't recognize the head and the valve adjusting cover, so I can't tell the brand.

Odd looking!

I think this is an old Japanese "Thumper", as we called them.  I believe Suzuki and Honda both made bike like this.  It was a single cylinder, 500cc motor that because of the unbalanced mass, felt like you were riding a jack hammer.  Lots of low end torque, if I recall.  The one I had didn't have the cool bellow. Oh, those fun loving, silly Germans...

...also looks like a single-sylinder, which would qualify it as a thumper.  I think thumpers got better over the years, as my 2007 BMW G650 Xcountry (650cc thumper) rides pretty smooth.  And you're right: LOTS of low-end torque.

Just a little tidbit: BMW's thumper power plant has been mostly stable since '91, has been fuel injected since the early 2000s, and you can get a little box to remap the fuel injection computer for ~$200 (not from BMW). :)

Kawasaki's 650cc thumper (KLR650) is still carbeurated, which may make it easier to fiddle with.  It has also been a stable platform for a looooooooong time (late 80s?)
