GEK v3.0 Auger
Here is the new GEK automated fuel feed and fuel drying / preheating system. This add-on bolts to the standard GEK without modification. It will also work on other gasification and pyrolysis systems though a custom made mounting solution, which APL can provide.
The controlled feed and thermal “pretreatment” of incoming fuel is a very old idea in gasification. The problem has always been the method to implement it economically. The solution below uses the typical GEK tube-in-tube with flange building system to make double jacketed heat exchange system. Outgoing gas from the gasifier is circulated through the assembly to give up its heat to the fuel. Liberated water vapor is removed via the usual monorator condensing hopper, or just heated and passed through the reactor as is, depending on your fuel specifics.
A simple spiral auger moves the fuel, with included PWM speed control. Fuel level sensing, and resulting auger drive control, is via an IR LED and photosensor in the cap over the reactor. A stirring rod and motor drive are also provided down the center of the reactor lid to help stop fuel bridging.
